Our consultant-led mole-screening clinic within Houlihan Pharmacy, in partnership with MapMyMole, is a medical service that checks your skin, especially moles and other skin lesions for signs of skin cancer, particularly melanoma. It is a form of preventative care aimed at detecting suspicious or abnormal moles early, when treatment is most effective.

What To Expect

Visual examination: a trained clinician will examine your skin focussing on moles, freckles or unusual lesions, identifying any areas to be screened. We look for suspicious features based on the ABCDE criteria (asymmetry, border irregularity, colour variation, diameter, evolving size, shape or colour).

Risk assessment: your skin type, personal and family history of skin cancer, and sun exposure habits will be discussed. 
 

Dermatoscopy: a handheld quality dermatoscope lens with polarized light is used to view the mole in detail, highlighting colours and patterns not visible to the naked eye.

Digital Imaging: high quality digital images are taken of the lesions to be reviewed and sent on to a UK consultant dermatologist.
 

Report: an easy-to-understand report is sent directly to the patient and the clinic within 24-48hours.
