If you're feeling unwell or have a minor illness, our pharmacists can assess your symptoms, provide treatment, and issue prescriptions if needed - all without any cost to you. It’s fast, convenient, and designed to help you get the care you need, closer to home.
 

What Is Pharmacy First Plus?

Pharmacy First Plus is an NHS Scotland service that allows Independent Prescribing Pharmacists to diagnose and treat a broader range of health conditions than ever before. You don’t need to see a doctor first or wait for a referral — you can come straight to us for assessment and treatment.
 

This service builds on the original Pharmacy First scheme, expanding the list of conditions we can help with, and making access to healthcare quicker and easier for people across Scotland.
 

What Can We Help With?

Our Independent Prescribing Pharmacists are qualified to assess and manage various common clinical conditions, including but not limited to:
 

• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

• Skin infections like impetigo or infected insect bites

• Sore throats and tonsillitis

• Shingles

• Acne

• Eczema and psoriasis flare-ups

• Allergic reactions

• Oral thrush

• Women’s health concerns (such as period delay or bacterial vaginosis)

• Hay fever and other seasonal allergies
   

We can also help manage long-term conditions in partnership with your GP practice, when appropriate.

 

How Does It Work?
 

• Walk in or book an appointment — no GP referral needed

• Speak privately with one of our qualified prescribing pharmacists

• Receive diagnosis and treatment — including prescription medication if appropriate

• Get the care you need right away, often without needing to visit your GP

The service is completely free to all eligible NHS patients in Scotland.
